Planning a holiday, visiting family, or attending business meetings in New Zealand? Here's what you need to know.

Visitor Visa

  • For tourists, family visits, or short-term study (up to 3 months).

    • Valid passport (must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure)

    • Meet health and character standards (medical checks may apply for longer stays)

    • Proof of funds: approx. NZD $1,000/month or $400/month if accommodation is prepaid

    • Onward travel ticket or proof of funds to purchase one

    • Stay up to 9 months in an 18-month period

    • Include partner and dependent children (aged 19 and under)

NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority)

  • Note: Australian permanent residents also need an NZeTA

    • Valid for multiple visits over 2 years

    • Allows stays up to 3 months per visit (or 6 months for UK citizens)

    • IVL (Tourism Levy) applies

Parent & Grandparent Visitor Visa

      • Multiple entries over 3 years

      • Up to 6 months per visit, 18 months total

      • Proof of relationship and financial support required

Business Visitor Visa

  • For short business visits (e.g. meetings, conferences, negotiations).

    • Proof of business purpose

    • Must meet general visitor visa conditions (health, character, funds)

Digital Nomad Visitor Visa (New from Jan 2025)

  • For remote workers employed overseas.

      • Work remotely in NZ for up to 90 days, extendable to 9 months

      • Tax obligations may apply for longer stays
